Sleeping or lack of sleeping can really affect one’s system in different ways.

Sleeping is the period when the body heals and recharges itself. Insomnia provides the opposite effect on the body.

Your sleeping habits make or break the health of the skin. There are many sleep factors that directly affect your epidermis.

Lack of Sleep


Sleep disorders have many consequences which can result in acne. One will be the weakening of your respective body’s defense mechanism.

This makes you susceptible to bacteria that inevitably cause acne.

Again it increases inflammation. The body gives a stronger inflammatory response when you lack sleep.

This turns small pimples into big, red ones. Sleep deprivation also increases insulin resistance. At these times, it improves the turnover rate of your skin cells. Which means that more dead skin cells will block your pores thus leading to acne?

Sleeping Late


Your body clock is in tune with nature’s night-and-day clock. It naturally slows down once it is night time, alerting the body to get some sleep.

Again, there are healing processes occurring while we are sleeping. Between 11pm to 2am, your body detoxifies and makes major repairs around the period.

When we don’t sleep at that same moment we won’t manage to experience the natural healing our body does. This makes our own bodies organs weak, including the outer skin.

The outer skin could eventually break and give us acne when we don’t provide enough time to rejuvenate itself.

Sleep quality


Sleeping long doesn’t mean quality sleep. We sleep in 5 phases. The fifth phase will be the Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase where sleeping are at its inmost.

You will need roughly a couple of hours to achieve REM. If it happened that you fail to reach REM, your sleep is narrow and you won’t feel relaxed or rested.

The body won’t have the ability to maintain the activities in the daytime in if you do not get quality sleep.

This affects your skin layer because it requires recovery from the day’s stress and exposure to different elements during the whole day.

Your epidermis should relax and never be uptight during the night. Not receiving quality sleep eventually contributes to poor skin ailment which leads to the accumulation of acne.


Your skin layer will really benefit from receiving adequate ample sleep. On the reverse, if you do not sleep, your skin layer will also suffer its result.
